About the event
Cygnet Salon’s July staged literary reading is “Steinbeck’s People,” a selection of excerpts from three of John Steinbeck’s most beloved books: East of Eden, Cannery Row, and The Grapes of Wrath.
Marilyn Stacey and Don Alder curated the selections to be read. Marilyn says, “John Steinbeck is a voice of
calm in unpredictable, overwhelming 2024. His words never fail to raise the hairs on our forearms. This
Cygnet Salon will explore some of his most complicated, hurting, and humorous characters, all drawn with
his impeccable, magical prose.”
Steinbeck is known for his compassionate, clear-eyed view of humanity and insight into the grand workings
behind social conflicts; his affinity for the land; and his ability to tell a compelling story in prose that’s
straightforward and supple, infused with a gritty sensibility. He’s been awarded a Pulitzer for The Grapes of
Wrath, and a Nobel for his body of work.
No Refunds and No Late Seating.
